On Wednesday May 7, the Play For Freedom Concert, scheduled at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas on May 10, was cancelled due to ticket sales. The artists scheduled to appear were Mark Chesnutt, Micky & the Motorcars, Jarrod Birmingham, Tommy Alverson, Haley Scarnato, The Pear Ratz, Walt Wilkins, Curtis Grimes, Britni Hoover, and Sgt. Tony Hill. This event was to benefit the Military Families and Wounded Warriors who are making the supreme sacrifice so that we can enjoy our lives here at home. These courageous men and women really humble me.
Molly Johnson, the person who was putting this show together, is a military wife. Her husband, Sfc. Dan Johnson, has just returned home from a tour of duty in Iraq and will be stationed Fort Sam Houston until further notice.
In the beginning of Molly's efforts, numerous individuals and large corporations told Molly they would help sponsor this worthy event. Naive as she was, she booked Dell Diamond and and scheduled the artists and production-staging support. However, things took a turn for the worse. The businesses did not come through with the sponsorship funding, so Molly emptied the family savings, borrowed from friends and family and 'maxed out' her credit cards to carry on with this event, just knowing that the public would show support. Her unselfish-giving attitude extends beyond most people I have ever met. Molly Johnson has the heart of a servant and is a true Patriot in every sense of the word.
Our
service men and women are the people who make it possible for businesses
to operate in this country. Without
our military you, your business, or your way of life would not
exist. As President Reagan
said, "Freedom is never
more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it
on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for,
protected, and handed on for them to do the same." Molly and her family have lost over $80,000.00 for this worthy cause and may have to go into bankruptcy. I feel it is a shame to turn our backs and not help someone who is giving their time, money, and efforts to help others. We owe our freedom to our military families and those who support their cause. Please help with donations so that Molly may recoup some of her expense and ease the burden she and her husband are already carrying.
